GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team (0-1) officially got their season underway on Saturday afternoon on the road against MAC Freedom member institution Arcadia (1-0). The Lions fell to the Knights by a final score of 20-5.
Today marked a new era of men's lacrosse at Albright as newly minted head coach
Derek Stump coached his first career game for the Lions. Stump '17 is a graduate of Albright College and accepted the head coaching position on January 17 of this year.
The score was close at halftime with the Knights clinging to a 5-4 lead after the opening 30 minutes of the season for both teams. Arcadia would not be denied in the second half, scoring 15 goals to take the win on their home turf.
Joost Van der Horst tallied two of the teams five goals this afternoon. Van der Horst is in his second season with the Lions and is coming off a 43 goal and 23 assist campaign a season ago. Van der Horst finished today's game with three total points adding one assist to his overall stat line.
James Elko led the team in shots with nine total placing seven of them on frame. Elko had a career year in 2024 setting new career highs in both goals (35) and assists (27).
Jack Burke tallied a goal in the season opener giving him 119 career goals. Burke enters the 2025 season fifth all time in goals scored and fourth all time in points with 172 to date.
Justin Moroney scored once and dished out two helpers to tie the team lead in points with three on the afternoon.
Hunter Fitterling was strong defensively causing three turnovers and collecting four groundballs.
Luke Williams and
Nick Antonio each caused two turnovers of their own.

Albright will return home for their home opener on Saturday, February 15 against Moravian. The game is set for a 12 p.m. start from Shirk Stadium.
