Baseball Faces York in Doubleheader

The Lions hosted their first conference games of the season against York.

READNG, Pa. – The Albright Baseball Team (5-6) hosted their first MAC Commonwealth games of the season against the York College Spartans (5-7). Following the doubleheader, the Spartans would remain perfect in conference play to begin the season and sweep the Lions. 
 
Game 1:
 
Game one saw all nine Lions from the starting lineup reach base safely at least once. 
 
Chris Gorla ended the game going a perfect two for two with a walk in what was his first home game of the year after missing the start of the season with an injury. 
 
Also reaching base safely multiple times was Aaron Kirby who drew a pair of walks in three plate appearances. 
 
The Lions offense scored their first run of the game in the third inning when Tommy Lewman hit a ball hard to the opposing shortstop allowing Roman Baretta to score. 
 
Two more runs would be plated in the sixth inning via the mats of Michael Avino and Plyler Hunter
 
After bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, the Lions would ultimately fall short in game one by a score of 7-3. 
 
Game 2:
 
The Lions offense picked up 11 total hits in game two with four different players recording multiple hits.
 
Nick Barton started the scoring for the Lions early after reaching in a fielder's choice in the first inning allowing Tommy Lewman to come around for a run. 
 
After falling behind six one, the Lions would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to move to within two. Plyler Hunter, Christian Eckstein and Roman Berretta each recorded a hit and RBI in this frame of the game. 
 
The Spartans offense would then jump back to life allowing them to score four unanswered runs to close out game two by a score of 10-4.

The Lions will be on the road for their next three games beginning with the Neumann Knights on Tuesday (3/18) at 3:30 pm.
