Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Lancaster Bible College

Albright won game two over the Chargers coming from behind scoring twice in the seventh inning to pick up their first win of the year.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Softball (1-7) picked up their first win of the season on Thursday afternoon by winning game two of the doubleheader over Lancaster Bible College (8-5). The Lions came from behind in game two scoring twice in the seventh inning.

Game 1:

After trailing early in game one the Lions tied up the game in the top of the third inning at 2-2.

Albright would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning on an inside the park home run from Slaydon Fisher. Fisher hit a ball down the right field line that was just out of reach of the diving Lancaster Bible fielder. The sophomore Lion hustled around the bases to slide under the tag at home to put Albright in front 3-2.

Lancaster Bible plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to regain the lead at 4-3. Down to their last out in the top of the seventh, the Lions were able to tie the game up at 4-4. Gabriella Weiss hit an RBI single that scored Grace Landante who previously reached on an error.

The Chargers would again spoil the Lions comeback bid by walking off in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game one of the double header 5-4.

Weiss went 3-4 at the plate including a triple and two RBIs. The extra base hit and three hit game are the first of Weiss's Albright career.

Fisher went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Fisher's homerun in the fifth inning was the first homerun of the season for the Lions and the first of Fisher's career.

Katie Behler also had two hits marking the first multi hit game of Behler's Albright career.
 

Game 2:

It was a different story in game two as the Lions completed the comeback to pick up a hard fought 4-3 win.

In game two, Albright found themselves down 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 over the course of the seven innings. Despite being down on multiple occasions, Albright continued to put together strong at bats.

Picking up in the seventh inning with the Lions trailing by one and Landante at bat. Landante roped a double into the right center field gap to score Langlois from first tying the game at 3-3.

After a Fisher intentional walk, Juliette Licata singled home Landante to give the Lions the 4-3 lead.

Alexis Laboy was able to shut the door in the bottom of the seventh to earn the team and individual victory. Laboy pitched a complete game throwing seven innings and striking out two batters. The win and complete game are the first for Laboy as an Albright Lion.

Landante and Fisher finished with identical stat lines in game two going 2-3 at the plate while each recording a run, an RBI and a walk.

Licata went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Weiss got on base via a walk and scored for Albright.

Albright will host Messiah this weekend on Saturday, March 22 playing in their third and fourth conference games of the season. The double header will start at 1:00 p.m. from Reading, Pa.
