Baseball Sweeps Home Opener against Wilson

The Lions played on their home field for the first time against the Wilson Phoenix

READNG, Pa. – The Albright Baseball Team (4-3) played at Kelchner Field for the first time this season against Wilson (1-10) in a double-header. Both games saw the Lions offense step up with a 5-2 win in game one following a dominant 12-3 game two win.

Game 1:

The Lions took the lead right out of the gate with a pair of runs scored in the first inning. Tommy Lewman drove in Jack Gilmer with a triple to right field. Lewman entered today's double-header with a .579 batting average.

Also driving in a first inning run was Nick Barton who brought home Lewman after a reaching first base on an error.

Lucas Williams started game one and held the Phoenix to only one run in 4.2 innings while striking out four batters. Williams would end up with his second win of the season following the game.

Following Williams' strong start was Josh Tudor who struck out four in the final 2.1 innings of game one and only surrendered one hit.

After Wilson pulled within one in the fifth inning, Roman Berretta and Jack Gilmer would each record RBI singles in the sixth inning to give the Lions some breathing room with a 5-2 lead.

Clutch pitching from Tudor would then help the Lions close out game one and give the junior his second save of the season.

Game 2:

Game two was no contest as the Lions offense exploded for 12 runs which included seven in the fourth inning alone.

Tommy Lewman remained on fire in game two and recorded four hits for four RBIs. Lewman ended the day with a triple in both games in addition to launching a homer in the seventh inning of game two.

Tying Lewman with three hits of his own was Plyler Hunter who also accounted for a pair of RBIs.

John O'Connor recorded the win and now moves to 2-1 on the season. O'Connor pitched six scoreless innings and struck out four while giving up only one hit.

Nine different Lions recorded hits with six of them having at least two. The 18 hits from the Lions would go on to lift the team past Wilson 12-3 for a sweep.
