READING, Pa. – Albright Baseball (16-18, 4-13 MAC Commonwealth) concluded their season series with Alvernia (22-14, 14-4 MAC Commonwealth) and returned to their home field to do so. After falling in game one 7-3, the Lions would score eight unanswered runs in game two to win 8-5.
Game 1:
The Golden Wolves started game one fast and scored a pair of runs in the first inning as they built up a 3-0 lead after the top of the third.
Christian Eckstein then got the Lions on the board with a sacrifice fly to right allowing
Deklyn Marks to tag up and score from third.
After Alvernia added on another run,
Chris Gorla would respond with his first homerun of the season to score a pair of runs and bring the Lions back to within one by a score of 4-3.
Following Gorla's homerun, the Golden Wolves would tack on runs in the fifth and seventh inning and would eventually take game one 7-3.
Game 2:
Game two started bleak for the Lions, as the team found themselves trailing 5-0 after the top of fourth inning.
Jack Gilmer would then start what ended up as a four spot in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run single to score
Nick Barton and
Roman Berretta.
Aidan Sturtevant and
Christian Eckstein would also drive in runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Lions within in one by a score of 5-4.
With no runs being scored by either team for the next three innings before the Lions started a big-time rally in the eighth inning.
After previously stealing two bases,
Nick Barton would tie the game after a fielder's choice from
Jack Gilmer before Sturtevant would come up big again to
Chris Gorla to give the Lions their first lead of the day.
Christian Eckstein then came through with a huge bases clearing triple to score two more runs and cap off the team's second four spot of the game and helped seal a 8-5 win.
The Lions bullpen would combine for 5.2 shutout innings with
Patrick Ahearn picking up his second win of the season.
The Lions win in game two snapped a 14-game conference win streak by Alvernia dating back to the middle of March.
