Women’s Lacrosse Downs Eastern 19-14 to begin Conference Play

Albright women’s lacrosse team beat Eastern 19-14 on Wednesday afternoon on the road. Anna Bien tied a program record for ground balls in a game with nine.

ST. DAVID'S, Pa.  – Women's lacrosse scored 19 goals on their way to a 19-14 win over Eastern to begin conference play. The win for Albright improves the team to 5-6, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth and drops Eastern to 2-6, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth. Albright is now a perfect 8-0 against Eastern in the all-time head-to-head series.

Anna Bien is having a great year for the Lions and continued the strong play this afternoon. Bien tied the program record for ground balls in a game with nine. Bien was disruptive all afternoon defensively setting a new career high in caused turnovers with five.

For good measure Bien scored a free position goal and collected five draw controls.

Albright has scored at least 18 goals in five of their 11 games this season including setting the program record for goals in a game with 26 against Wilson College earlier this season. Coming into the game today, Kayte Moist leads the Commonwealth in goals (41) and Sarah Chernis leads the Commonwealth in assists (30).

Moist scored six more goals this afternoon leading the offensive charge. The six-goal game is the fifth time this season Moist has scored at least six goals in a game.

The opening 15 minutes saw Albright score nine goals. Zoe Dicks scored three straight goals in the opening period. Eastern controlled the second and third period to cut their deficit to 14-13.

In the fourth period, the Lions regained their form outscoring Eastern by five in the frame to win comfortably in the end.

Sarah Chernis added three more assists today and is now up to 33 total on the season. The senior Lion needs eight nine more assists to set the new single season assist record. Additionally, Chernis is sitting at 93 career points looking to become the 12th player in school history to achieve 100 career points.

Kendall Smith scored three times while Lucy Moreland and Riley Basht each scored twice. For Smith it was her fourth hat trick of the season.

Albright will remain on the road for their next MAC Commonwealth on Saturday, April 5. The team will head to York, Pa. to take on the #8 York Spartans. The game will start at 1:00 p.m.
