Women’s Lacrosse Begins Conference Play on the Road at #8 York

The women’s lacrosse Commonwealth schedule began on Saturday afternoon on the road facing off against nationally ranked York College.

YORK, Pa. – Women's lacrosse opened MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon facing off against #8 York College. The Spartans of York (8-3, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) protected home field winning 19-2 over visiting Albright (5-7, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth).

On Wednesday of this week, the Lions picked up win number one in MAC Commonwealth play on the road. The Lions beat Eastern 18-12 to start conference play 1-0.
Today, the Spartans were able to jump on the Lions, scoring 13 goals in the first half to take a lead into halftime.

York would then control play in the second half to win their first MAC Commonwealth game of the season.

Riley Basht scored for the Lions bringing her season goal total to 13. Basht has scored in three straight games overall and in two straight games to begin conference play.

Kendall Smith tallied the second goal of the day for the Lions in the third period. The goal was the 19th of the season for Smith who has now scored in three straight games as well.

Courtney Futrick, Kaila Clark and Katelyn Kelly were all credited with one caused turnover. Kylee McCauley-Kriegsman fared well in goal for the Lions in relief making three saves while only allowing three goals.

Caelainn Morrison made nine saves today and is closing in on 500 career saves. Morrison has 477 career saves to date with five games remaining in the regular season.

Albright will return home next week on Wednesday, April 9 hosting the Widener Pride. The game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
