READING, Pa. – Albright Softball (3-26) returned home to face the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins (9-21) in one of their final non-conference doubleheaders of the season. Following 14 innings of play, the visiting Griffins would escape with two wins by scores of 4-2 and 7-5.
Game 1:
Gabriella Weiss pitched 4.2 shutout innings in relief and held the Griffins to only three hits to keep the Lions in the game until their final at bat.
Grace Landante singled down the right field line to bring in the Lions' first run of the game to tie the score at 1-1.
Also picking up an RBI for the Lions was
Alexis Laboy who drove in
Aliza Langlois to put the Lions within reach by a score of 3-2.
Juliette Licata registered a team high three hits and came around to score on Landante's first inning single.
After plating an insurance run in the seventh, the Griffins would hold off the Lions in game one 4-2.
Game 2:
The Lions bats started game two hot with five runs in the bottom of the first inning off of RBIs from five different players. Gabriella Weis started the scoring for the Lions with an RBI single to score
Slaydon Fisher.
Also picking up first inning RBIs were
Alexis Laboy.
Ryleigh Prinz,
Monica Hernandez and
Sadie Gonzalez.
Alexis Laboy started on the Mound for the Lions and allowed only two earned runs over the course of 5.1 innings.
Unfortunately for the Lions, the dormant Gwynedd Mercy offense would finally wake up with seven runs of their own in the sixth inning to ultimately complete the sweep by a score of 7-5.
