Women’s Tennis Clinches Playoff Berth with 7-0 Win over Eastern

The Albright women’s tennis team officially clinched a spot in the 2025 MAC Commonwealth Women’s Tennis Championships with a 7-0 victory over Eastern.

ST. DAVID'S, Pa.  – Women's tennis (14-0, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) officially clinched a playoff spot in the 2025 MAC Commonwealth Women's Tennis Championships with a 7-0 win over Eastern (4-10, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) on Wednesday afternoon.

Albright was in line to clinch back-to-back playoff appearances before today's match. However, with the win the team will now be guaranteed the opportunity to defend their 2024 MAC Commonwealth title.

The Lions have yet to lose this season combining the fall and spring seasons. With a win on Friday afternoon against Stevenson, the Lions will complete their first perfect regular season in program history.

Additionally, with a win on Friday Albright will be the number one seed in the 2025 MAC Commonwealth Women's Tennis Championships.

In conference play season through four total matches, the Lions have only dropped one point to their opponent.

On Tuesday afternoon, Alex Pancu was named Player of the Week for the seventh time in her career. Today Pancu made her quick work of her opponent winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. the win is #59 in Pancu's career playing in the number one singles position. The current program record for the most wins at number one singles is 61.

Michelle Timothy got the job done in No. 2 singles winning 6-4, 6-1 and Allison Horick was dominant in No. 3 singles winning 6-0, 6-0.

Elicia Aponte's No. 4 singles match went the distance but Aponte was able to come out on top in the end. Aponte won the first set, dropped the second set and then rebounded nicely to win the match in the end. The scoreline for Aponte was 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

Alaina Smith and Saba Soroush were featured in No. 5 and No. 6 singles play, respectively. The duo won by the same scoreline of 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles play was more of the same for the Lions as Pancu and Horick won 6-1 while Timothy and Aponte won 6-0.

Albright will host Stevenson on Friday, April 25 against Stevenson. The match is the last of the regular season for the Lions and will start at 3:00 p.m.
