READING, Pa. – Albright women's tennis (15-0, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) wrapped up another historic season on Friday afternoon completing a perfect regular season while improving their regular season win streak to 24. The Lions topped Stevenson (7-8, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) 6-0 at home to close out the regular season.
Alex Pancu collected her 60th win at number one singles.
The 2024-25 team is the first in school history to go undefeated in a season and is the first to clinch back-to-back one seeds in the conference playoffs. Albright will host the No. 4 seed in the Commonwealth on Wednesday, April 30.
Albright was dominant in the fall and spring seasons. In the 15 matches played, the Lions outscored their opponents 94-9. In conference play alone, Albright outscored their opponents 33-1. Albright is 13 for their last 13 in Commonwealth play over the last two seasons last losing a Commonwealth match in April of 2023.
The win is the 24
th in a row for Albright in the regular season. The last loss in the regular season came back in March of 2024.
Alex Pancu is a three-time MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year among many other accolades and inched closer this afternoon to adding to her resume. With her straight sets win today, Pancu earned her 60th #1 singles win. Pancu is now one win shy of tying the program record for #1 singles wins. Pancu's first crack at tying the record will come in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
Michelle Timothy wrapped up another tremendous season going 13-1 overall. Of the 13 wins this season for Timothy, 12 of them came in straight sets playing as the Lions #2 singles player. Timothy ends the regular season on a seven-match win streak.
Allison Horick did not lose a single match in her first-year with the team. Horick stepped in right away playing in the #3 and #4 singles slot going 14-0. Of the 14 wins, 12 of them were in straight sets adding another formidable opponents the opposition has to deal with when facing Albright.
Elicia Aponte went 13-2 this year with a win in her final match of the regular season in straight sets this afternoon. Aponte now has 26 career wins as the Lions #3 and #4 singles player. Aponte won her last seven matches including an unblemished record in conference play.
Alaina Smith dropped her first match of the year back in the fall and then proceeded to go undefeated the rest of the way. Smith not only won her last 14 matches of the season but did so by winning each one in straight sets.
