RESULTS
Today's opening round as well as tomorrow's second round is being played at Golden Oaks Golf Club, a familiar venue for the Lions. When the Lions started their rounds this morning, the team had to battle a steady rain as well as wind and cold. By the time the team finished their round, the sun was shining ultimately turning into a decent day for golf.
Alvernia is in the lead after day one with a team score of 311. York is in second with a team score of 316 while the Lions round out the top three with a team round of 342. Arcadia is in fourth shooting a 355 as a team and Lebanon Valley and Stevenson are tied for fifth with team scores of 363.
Fatima Rizvi is one of the best players in the conference and showed why today. Rizvi's round of 75 has her tied for first in a field of 52 total golfers. Rizvi was three over on the front nine but got better and better as the round went on. Over her last nine holes played, Rizvi did not record a single hole over par playing the back nine at even par.
Rizvi will look to continue her strong play tomorrow afternoon in hopes of becoming an individual MAC champion.
Ilaria Catania ended her round in the top 10 shooting an 80. Catania found a birdie on the par four fifth hole highlighting the strong opening nine. Catania is tied for eighth with two other golfers from York.
Braidan Wastler finished better than half the field this afternoon with a round of 93. Wastler was steady throughout and especially on the par threes playing them at just one over par.
Callie Cooper was just one stroke behind teammate Wastler ending her round one with a score of 94. For Cooper, today marked just her third round of the spring season.
