Men’s Soccer Blanks Penn State Berks 3-0 in Season Opener

The Lions started the year on the right note downing the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions on the road.

READING, Pa. – Men's soccer scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to begin 2025 with a 3-0 shutout victory over Penn State Berks. The win moves the Lions to 1-0 on the season while the Nittany Lions fall to 0-1. For Albright today's win marks, the fourth straight season the team has began 1-0.

The first half looked to be headed for a scoreless draw, but Martin Ramsay collected a failed clear attempt by the Penn State Berks back line to put the Lions on top 1-0.

To get in scoring position, Ramsay beat a defender on the left side of the field. After playing a ball in the box, the ball eventually found its way back to Ramsay who blasted a shot right past the Berks netminder. Ramsay has now scored in the season opening game in every season since he arrived on campus in 2022.

With less than five minutes to go in the first half the Lions doubled their lead after Sam Specht did well to earn a free kick just outside of the box. Bryan Tavera-Perez stepped up to take the free kick and proceed to deposit the ball into the top left part of the net for his first career goal at Albright.

Zach Fratrik led the way with three shots on the day. In the 73rd minute of play Fratik scored his first goal of his career via a penalty kick to make it 3-0 Albright. Daniel Lowman drew the foul in the box to help the Lions put the game away in the late stages.

Mike Lawry earned the start in net and pitched his first shutout of the season making one save playing behind a strong defensive back line.

Albright outshot Penn State Berks 13-3 and led in corners 8-1 dominating possession for much of the game.
