READING, Pa. – The Albright Women's Soccer team (0-0-1) opened their season at home against Penn State Abington (0-0-1). Following 90 minutes of play, the match would end in a draw after neither side was able to find the back of the net.
This game marked the debut for
Shamus Matthews as the team's head coach.
The theme for both sides tonight was strong defense and equally strong goalkeeping. Both teams appeared evenly matched with Albright registering one more shot on goal (7) compared to Abington.
Even with the strong defense from the Nittany Lions, the Lions were able to create a number of quality opportunities with
Daiveni Fisher registering a team high three shots on goal. Fisher's team high nine shots would go on to be a career high for the sophomore.
Also registering multiple shots on goal was
Abigail Landis, who recorded a pair in 81 minutes of play.
The Lions defensive effort, led by
Gianna Glembocki and
Kassidy Phillips, consistently broke up scoring opportunities in the team's defensive shutout.
Alexis Solt started in goal and in 90 minutes recorded a number of clutch grabs to go along with three saves, several of which came in the final minutes of play.
Despite both team's creating several offensive chances, both defenses remained dominant enough for the match to end in a 0-0 draw.
