READING, Pa. – Albright Football (1-2, 0-2 MAC) returned home after two straight road games to start the year for a match against Delaware Valley (2-1, 2-0 MAC). Both offenses were clicking throughout the game with the visiting Aggies coming up with a clutch stop in the final minute of play to leave with a 35-28 win over the Lions.
Chase Roberts threw for a season high 324 yards on 23 completions and accounted for three of Albrights four touchdowns, with two in the air and one on the ground.
Arthur Poindexter continued his breakout year with 10 catches for 140 yards and two receiving touchdowns, including a 35 yarder from Roberts in the final minutes of the first quarter. Poindexter's catches and receiving yards ranked first among both teams with the sophomore already entering this week's game among the conference leaders in both receptions and yards.
Five total touchdowns occurred in the first half alone with the visiting Aggies entering halftime a with a 21-14 lead over the Lions.
With the Aggies offense rolling on their first drive of the second half,
Evan Bryfogle hauled in his first collegiate interception off of a tipped pass from
Sebastian Robinson.
Following Bryfogle's interception,
John Boston tied the game up at 21-21 with a nine-yard touchdown run capping off a 11-play 94-yard drive. Boston ran for a career best 143 yards in addition to recoding another 45 yards on three catches for 188 total yards of offense.
After a slow start,
Alden Stickler found his footing in the second half with four catches for 82 yards including a 34 yarder to end the third quarter.
Following Poindexter's second touchdown, the Lions needed a defensive stop to get the ball back in the final minutes.
Mark Fetterman's group would force a three and out which included a momentum swinging tackle for a loss from
Jamall Charles and
Jamaree Roberts.
The Lions' final drive would start at their own 28 and began with back-to-back first down rushes from Boston leading to the two-minute timeout.
Logan Rothberg hauled in a clutch 22-yard reception on a third and nine with just over a minute to go.
The game would come down to a 4
th down in the redzone with the Lions in need of two yards in the final thirty seconds. The Aggies would then breakup a pass intended for Stickler in the endzone to seal the game.
Jemelle Brown Jr. led the defense with six total tackles and was followed by
Samuel Moratori,
Darien Osmun and
Daunte Morrison who each had five. Robinson led with two pass breakups from his linebacker position while
Ian Adams matched Robinson with two pass breakups of his own.
