Arthur Poindexter Dominates Widener in Pretzel Bowl Victory

The Lions played the game at their pace from the opening kickoff and broke a six-game losing streak against Widener to win their first pretzel bowl since 2017.

READING, Pa. – Albright Football (2-2, 1-2 MAC) hosted the 74th annual Pretzel Bowl against the Pride of Widener (1-3, 0-3 MAC). The Lions found the endzone on their second drive and never looked back in what turned out to be a 35-9 blowout win.

The Lions offense continues to make major strides under Danny Collins' watch and as a team put up 486 yards while averaging just under seven yards per play (6.94).

Chase Roberts was once again in command and completed 25 passes for 299 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns with two in the air and one on the ground. This marks the second time in as many games the junior has put up three total touchdowns.

With the Lions up 14-0 late in the second quarter, Evan Bryfogle hauled in his second interception of the season in what turned out to be a 40-yard return for a touchdown to give the Lions their first defensive score of the season.

Following a 21-point first half, Roger Romany-Walker would score the first of Albright's two second half touchdowns with a three-yard run to push the lead to 28-3. John Boston also eclipsed 100 rushing yards for the second straight week which included a 45-yard dash to set up Romany-Walker's score.

A one-yard pass in the tail end of the third quarter would be the Pride's lone touchdown of day. The Pride were held to 217 total yards of offense largely impart to the play of Amon McLaughlin and Ian Adams, who combined for seven of the team's nine pass breakups.

The final score of the day would come in the form of an eight-yard touchdown pass to Albright's Pretzel Bowl MVP Arthur Poindexter with just under nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Poindexter had a day to remember and flirted with a number of single game program records. The sophomore's 15 catches were two shy of tying the record for receptions in a game while his 231 receiving yards ended up being just 13 yards short of the single game receiving yards record and ranks fifth all time. This also marks Poindexter's third straight game with multiple touchdowns.

This victory marks both the first conference and home win for Shaun Weaver as head coach. The team continues to respond well to Weaver's leadership and mobbed him while chanting his name over and over following the trophy presentation.
