READING, Pa. – Volleyball (4-7, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play on Wednesday night in style sweeping Alvernia (5-5, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) on the road 3-0. The win is the second consecutive season the Lions have topped the Golden Wolves.
The opening conference win is the first time the Lions have started 1-0 in conference play since the 2014 season.
Albright was in control of the match from start to finish, winning the match in three sets. The Lions started set one down 6-0 and went on a 6-0 run to tie things up at six. From there the Lions would go on to win the first set to take a 1-0 lead.
Fast forwarding to the third set as the Lions look to sweep. In the third set, Albright was down 19-20. Much like the first set, Albright would go on a 6-0 run to close out the match and secure the victory.
Korrine Tillery led the way with nine kills on the offensive end. The nine kills marks a new career high for the first-year Lion.
Rachel Etim was all over the court this evening finishing with eight kills, two service aces, two blocks and three digs.
Isabella Garay recorded her second straight 20 dig effort. Garay has been strong defensively all year having seven double digit kill efforts in total bringing her season dig total to 149.
Also recording double digit dig efforts was
Samantha Lipp and
Valouria James who had 12 and 10 digs, respectively. James added 24 assists to her overall stat line marking the third straight match of 24 or more assists.
The Lions finished with 11 aces as a team.
Paige Lipp had four of them while
Neve Straff, Garay and Etim each had two.
