NEWARK, N.J. – Volleyball picked up their first two wins of the season on Saturday afternoon after downing Rutgers-Newark and the City College of New York. The wins pushed the Lions overall record to 2-2 this season.
Match #1 vs Rutgers-Newark | W 3-2
The Lions picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over Rutgers-Newark.
Rachel Etim earned a career milestone during the match achieving 400 career kills. Etim finished with seven kills to put her career total in kills at 402. Etim was active on defense finishing with six blocks.
Neve Straff led the way with 14 kills and added 10 digs in her first double double effort of the season.
Valouria James and
Korrine Tillery each finished with six kills in the first match of the day.
Paige Lipp was all over the court finishing with 29 assists and 15 digs while adding two kills for good measure.
Samantha Lipp led the team in digs with 23 and services aces having five of them. The Lipp sisters numbers from today were all good for career highs in an Albright uniform.
Isabella Garay and
Mackenzie David both finished with double digit digs having 14 and 11, respectively. David was strong in the service game finishing with three aces.
Match #2 vs City College of New York | W 3-1
The Lions dropped the first set in the second match of the day but rebounded nicely to win the next three sets and complete the sweep.
Etim achieved her second career milestone of the afternoon, reaching 100 career service aces. Etim finished with one ace in the contest to go along with seven kills.
Straff turned in back-to-back double digit kill efforts having 13 kills in the second match of the afternoon. The junior outside hitter recorded her own personal career milestone today going over the 500 career kill mark.
Garay was strong defensively in game two recording 18 digs giving herself back-to-back games with 10 plus digs.
Samantha Lipp was the second Lion to record double digit digs, having 11 of them.
Paige Lipp nearly bested her first game assist total in game two setting up her teammates all afternoon to the tune of 27 assists against the City College of New York.
