ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Women's basketball (6-7, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) was locked into a back-and-forth game before pulling away late to beat Eastern (5-8, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) 70-63 on the road on Saturday afternoon. Albright is 8-2 against Eastern in their last 10 meetings.
The win gives Albright back-to-back wins to begin Commonwealth play. Additionally, Albright improves their road record to 4-2 this season.
Eastern held a two-point advantage at the half as neither team was able to gain much separation on the scoreboard.
The third quarter went to the Lions as they held Eastern to just 22.2% shooting from the field in the frame. The strong defense saw Albright carry a 47-44 lead into the final 10 minutes.
With the game tied at 52 with 6:35 left on the clock, the Lions would then go on a 18-11 run to close the game. Albright led by as many as 10 with under a minute remaining.
Free throw shooting was prominent in today's game as Albright went 22-29 from the line while Eastern went 16-26.
Kenedy Cooper and
Chrisdin Jones led the way for the offense as the duo each scored 17 points. Cooper was credited with three rebounds and four steals while Jones tallied eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
CJ Apistar and
Gigi Serrano gave Albright four total Lions in double figures each having 11 points. Serrano nearly had a double-double finishing with nine rebounds while Apistar collected seven rebounds of her own.
Albright was dominant on the glass recording 49 rebounds to Eastern's 35, helping Albright to their third win in their last four games.
