READING, Pa. – Women's Basketball (7-7, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) played the first of back-to-back home games against Messiah (10-4, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth). The Lions once against shined defensively to remain perfect in conference play in the form of a 58-47 victory. The Falcons were featured in the latest edition of the D3Hopps national rankings.
This marks the fourth win for the Lions in their last five games and their first win against the Falcons since the 2017-2018 season. The Falcons had won 17 straight prior to tonight's contest.
Kenedy Cooper led all scorers with 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Cooper's fourth steal came in the final minute to ultimately seal the win. Cooper is currently tied for the conference lead in steals (35).
Ending the night with double digit points were
Chrisdin Jones and
Orianna Edmond who tied for second on the team with 11 and combined for 16 rebounds with Jones finishing one shy of a double-double.
The Lions entered halftime up 29-22 looking to spark their offense while maintaining their strong defensive foothold. Albright held Messiah to their second lowest scoring output of the season.
As a team the Lions would convert on all 11 of their second half free-throw attempts including
Julia Zakovitch going three for three. Zakovitch finished with nine points and connected on three of her five shots which included some fantastic layups while drawing contact in the second half.
CJ Apistar did a little bit of everything for the Lions hauling in four rebounds while finishing with a team best three assists to go along with two steals.
Albright holding the Falcons to only 10 fourth quarter points was then enough to pick up their seventh win of the season in front of their home crowd.
