READING, Pa. – Women's Basketball (8-7, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) played their second straight at home and hosted Alvernia (7-8, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Through 40 minutes of play, a rough start from a struggling Lions offense would turn into their most electrifying win of the season.
Chrisdin Jones led the Lions with 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three assists in addition to a career best four blocks on the defensive side of the ball. Jones accounted for a number of clutch shots in the fourth quarter to help spark the Lions' comeback.
Also setting a new career high was
Julia Zakovitch who's 13 rebounds went on to lead all players. Five of the senior's rebounds came on the offensive end which led to a number of second chance buckets.
After a slow start on offense and being down by as much as 16 points, the Lions would end the second quarter strong to cut the Golden Wolves' lead to single digits by a score of 24-17 at halftime.
By the time the fourth quarter rolled around the Lions found themselves trailing by 11 points (42-31) in need of an offensive spark while keeping their same level of defensive intensity they've kept all season.
CJ Apistar would account for four of the team's 11 steals in addition to nine rebounds.
In the final minute of play the Loins found themselves facing a five-point deficit (51-46) and in do or die mode offensively.
Following a three pointer from
Chrisdin Jones,
Kenedy Cooper would score four points in the final 22 seconds which included a three-point shot that gave the Lions their first lead since the opening quarter. Cooper's game winning shot sent a packed Bollman center into a frenzy.
A full court defensive effort by the Lions on the final possession would allow them to down their cross-city rivals by a score of 53-52.
