Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road to Widener

The Lions suffered their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday night squaring off against Widener on the road.

CHESTER, Pa. – Women's basketball (8-8, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth) dropped their first conference game of the season on Wednesday evening falling to Widener (12-4, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) by a final score 89-72.

Coming into tonight's game, the Lions were atop the Commonwealth with a perfect 4-0 mark. Even with the loss tonight Albright is still in good standing in the Commonwealth, being now tied with Messiah at 4-1 in conference.

Widener led 42-30 at the break. The Pride shot 43.68% from the field in the first half to jump out to the early lead. Albright would battle tough in the second half, but Widener proved to be too much to handle in the end.

CJ Apistar played all 40 minutes of tonight's game and proceeded to set a new career high in points with 17. Apistar went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line while collecting three rebounds, assists and steals and a block for good measure.

Chrisdin Jones led the way with 21 points scored in 32 minutes of action. Jones notched eight rebounds and three blocks.

Kenedy Cooper was the third Lion to finish in double figures, scoring 14 points. Cooper nearly missed out on a double-double finishing with eight rebounds.

Camille McCaskell chipped in with eight points while Orianna Edmond finished with six points.

Albright did well to get to the free throw line tonight attempting 36 free throws to Wideners 26.

The Lions will remain on the road for their next contest against York on Saturday, January 24. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from the campus of York College.
