READING, Pa. – Women's Basketball (4-7) played on their home court for the first time in over a month against the United States Coast Guard Academy (5-6). Through 40 minutes of play, momentum shot back and forth as both teams turned in strong defensive performances resulting in a 62-53 win for the bears.
Kenedy Cooper had a career day and led all scorers with 22 points and 16 rebounds, both career bests for the Junior. Cooper is currently averaging a career best 11.5 ppg and inches closer to surpassing 400 career points (390).
As a team the Lions out-rebounded the Bears 59-51 which included 26 on the offensive end. Joining Cooper with double digit rebounds was
Gigi Serrano who finished with 12 by way of both six offensive and defensive boards.
After a defensive battle through the first 20 minutes the Bears would enter halftime with a five-point lead over the Lions (22-17).
After trailing by as many as 11 points, the Lions would catch fire at the start the fourth quarter strong and tie the game at 40-40 with just under eight minutes to play before taking a 45-43 lead courtesy of two free throws from Cooper.
Orianna Edmond finished one rebound shy of a double-double and accounted for 10 points which included six free throws in 32 minutes of play.
With the Lions trailing by one in the final minute, the Bears offense would embark on a 8-0 run when it mattered most to leave with a 62-53 win over the Lions.
