Defense Shines in Women’s Basketball’s Win over Hood

The Lions got their first home win of the season in the form of one of their most dominant wins in recent memory.

READING, Pa. – Women's Basketball (5-7, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) played the latter of back-to-back home games and opened conference play against Hood (3-9, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth). The Lions would hold the Blazers to under 25% shooting in a 59-28 statement win. The margin of victory is the largest of the season for the Lions having two 25 plus wins this season.

Julia Zakovitch led all scorers with 10 points in addition to six rebounds and three combined assists and blocks in 18 minutes off the bench.

Also putting together a strong performance off the bench was Camille McCaskell, who connected on three of her four shots for eight points, the highest scoring total so far for her first collegiate season.

Tying McCaskell with eight points were Orianna Edmond and Kenedy Cooper who combined for four steals and three blocks on the defensive end.

As a team Albright distributed the ball very well and recorded assists on 19 of their 26 made shots with CJ Apistar leading the way with five.

Ciarra Gibbs put on a defensive clinic which included a career best nine rebounds in addition to a pair of blocks and three assists.

The Lions went on to hold Hood to under 10 points in each of the first three quarters in what turned out to be their fewest points allowed since the 2015-2016 season against the same Hood Blazers.

Albright dominated in the paint scoring 40 of their points under the basket. The Lions hauled in 22 offensive rebounds which led to 17 second chance points.
