Men’s Basketball Picks Up Third Conference Win Against Widener

The Lions took the second of two games at the Bollman Center with four players ending the night in double digits.

READING, Pa. – Men's Basketball (7-9, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) defeated Widener (5-11, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) for their third straight win. Despite a second half charge from the Pride, the Lions never trailed and hung on for an 82-79 win.

Phanique Dupree led the charge for the Lions on both ends of the court which included a career best 25 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Eight of Dupree's rebounds came on the offensive end which contributed to a number of second chance buckets.

Albright maintained a stable lead throughout the first half thanks to a lockdown defensive effort that held the pride to shooting under 45% as a team. Chase McWhite would end the day with a game best three blocks while also hitting on six of his 10 shots for 13 points.

The Lions would start the second half well and built their lead up to as much as 14 points (58-44). Qadir Mitchell dropped 16 points in addition to a combined six rebounds and assists. The senior continues to average a career high in scoring (19.8) and has recorded at least 10 points in every game this season.

Widener's offense would not stay dormant forever as a 41-point second half would allow the pride to claw their way back and go as far as to tie the game at 77-77 with just under 90 seconds to play.

Jeremiah Stanton would answer the call with a nothing but net three pointer in the final minute prior to a Mitchell two pointer to build the Lions lead back up to five (82-77) in the final seconds. Stanton tied for the team lead in assists with four and ended with 12 points.

Today's victory marks the third straight victory for the Lions over the Pride dating back to last season.
