Qadir Mitchell Game Winner Downs Stevenson; Lions Win Fifth Straight

Men’s basketball wins their fifth straight game on Qaidr Mitchell’s game winning shot with two seconds remaining.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Men's basketball (9-9, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) picked up a road win on Thursday afternoon over Stevenson (9-9, 1-6 MAC Commonwealth) to win their fifth straight game by a final score of 75-74. The win is the sixth straight for Albright over Stevenson and pushes the Lions into second place in the Commonwealth.

Qadir Mitchell played hero for the Lions as he converted on a jump shot with just two seconds remaining. Jeremiah Stanton found a wide-open Mitchell just inside the three-point line who then converted with seconds remaining.

The ensuing inbounds play from Stevenson was well defended by the Lions as the Mustangs failed to get a shot off before the clock hit zero.

Mitchell led all scorers with 29 points marking his fifth game this season scoring 20 or more points. The sharpshooting senior went 3-6 from three-point range while adding four rebounds and three assists.

Ahkir Keys came up big for Albright making four threes on his way to a career high 18 points. Keys biggest three of the afternoon came with two minutes left to tie the game back up at 68 apiece.

With just over a minute remaining, Phanique Dupree attempted and made his only three of the game to give the Lions the lead for the moment at 71-70. Dupree notched his second double-double in the past three games, scoring 15 points and collecting 12 rebounds.

Mitchell, Keys and Dupree combined to score 62 of the Lions 75 points.

Albright was lethal from beyond the arc all game long finishing with a team shooting percentage of 42.9% from three. Fast break points went in favor of the Lions having 13 to just four from Stevenson.

The win is the fifth straight for the Lions to begin Commonwealth play. Tonight's game also marked the midway point of the conference slate. With seven games remaining in the regular season, Albright is well positioned in the conference standings.
