Women’s Basketball Late Game Comeback Falls Short at Messiah

Albright went on the road on Wednesday evening matching up against the Messiah Falcons. Messiah protected home court winning 59-56 after a furious comeback attempt by the Lions.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Women's basketball (9-11, 5-4 MAC Commonwealth) went on the road for their first of two road games this week beginning at Messiah (16-4, 8-1 MAC Commonwealth). Messiah would go on to win in the end defeating the Lions by a final score of 59-56.

Earlier this season, Albright beat Messiah (58-47) for the first time in 17 games winning 58-47 on their home floor. The two teams split the season series for the first time since the 2016-2017 season.

Prior to tonight's game, Kenedy Cooper was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Player of the Week for her two strong games last week against Eastern and Stevenson.

Messiah led 31-16 at halftime. The second half was a very different story as the Lions were looking for another comeback win.

The Falcons led by as many as 20 in the contest. Albright began to climb back into the game throughout the fourth quarter starting the frame on an 11-0 run. The Lions would take their first lead of the game on a Chrisdin Jones layup with 1:45 remaining.

After Messiah made two free throws to go in front 57-56, Albright had a chance to take the lead again with under 10 seconds remaining. The Lions had a good look at the basket, but the shot did not fall resulting in the furious comeback falling just short.

Jones led the way with 18 points while adding five rebounds and four steals. Cooper chipped in with 15 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. On the night Albright recorded 15 total steals.

Orianna Edmond notched her first double-double of the year, going for 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds.

CJ Apistar played all 40 minutes leading the team in assists with three.
