READING, Pa. – Albright Softball (5-3) traveled to face Rutgers-Camden (2-2) in what would be their seventh and eighth road games to start the season. Game one would feature a thrilling Lions comeback, while the two teams traded blows in game two that ultimately ended in a Scarlet Raptors win.
Game 1:
Albright struck first in the top of the first inning via an RBI single from
Madison Lasko to score
Mya Frana. Lasko would finish game one with a pair of RBIs and reached base twice with a walk and a hit.
Rutgers-Camden would then score three unanswered runs including two in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning with the Lions needing to rally late.
Lasko's walk with the bases loaded scored
Juliette Licata to cut the Raptors lead to one (3-2) before
Alexis Laboy gave the Lions the lead with a two run double to score
Adriana Buonacore along with Frana for her second run of the game.
Laboy would then shut down the Scarlet Raptors in the bottom of the seventh for her first win of the season. The sophomore pitched a complete game which included three strikeouts over the course of 111 pitches.
Game 2:
The Lions picked up where they left off and scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning by taking advantage of a passed ball followed by an RBI groundout from
Emma Massie to give Albright a early 2-0 lead.
After the Scarlet Raptors responded with three runs of their own
Juliette Licata doubled to center field allowing the Lions to regain the lead. Mya Franna would then bring Licata home the following at bat to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Lions after four innings.
Albright would respond to a three spot from Rutgers-Camden in the form of a
Riley Winchell double to score
MaLayna Blanco to bring the Lions within one (7-6).
Ultimately, the Scarlet Raptors would hold on to salvage the double-header for their second win of the season.
