READING, Pa. – Softball (6-4, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) debuted at home against Alvernia (6-8, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) on Saturday afternoon. Through 14 innings of play, the two cross-city rivals would split their season series.
Game 1:
After Alvernia opened with five runs in the top of the first, the Lions punched back immediately with three runs of their own. After
Juliette Licata and
Mya Frana reached base,
Slaydon Fisher sent a ball over the left field wall for the first of her two hits on the day.
A double from Licatta the following inning would score
Emma Massie to bring the Lions within one (5-4) after two innings.
Neither team would score again until the Golden Wolves scored four runs across the final two innings to take game one by a score of 9-4.
Madison Lasko picked up a pair of hits and joined Licata, Frana and Fisher with multiple hits in game one.
Game 2:
The Lions found success early and often and scored in each of the first three innings to take all momentum from Alvernia. Frana took advantage of a first inning error to score from third for the game's first run before driving in
Adriana Buonacore and
Katie Behler the following inning.
Albright would tack on three more runs in the third inning which included a pair of bases loaded walks from Licata and Fisher to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
While the Lions bats were connecting throughout the entire game,
Alexis Laboy pitched a stellar complete game shutout and stifled the bats of the entire Alvernia lineup. Laboy scattered four hits and recorded three strikeouts for her second win of the season.
The victory marks the first shutout win over a conference opponent since the team's 2-0 victory over Stevenson in 2024.
