Baseball Plays to Rare Tie Against Penn St Berks

The Lions and Nittany Lions were unable to be separated until the game was called due to darkness

READING, Pa - Albright Baseball (5-2-1) was back in action for its home opener against Penn St Berks (1-6-1). After nine innings of play the game was called due to darkness at a square 13-13 tie.

Albright would get out to a hot start in the bottom of the first putting up a five spot. Anthony Knight would rip a double off the fence and drive in the first run of the day. Tyler Boccelli was then able to drive in Tommy Lewman on a sac fly. Chris Gorla, Plyler Hunter, and John Pecoraro would string together three straight hits and in the process to add three more runs.

The Nittany Lions would respond with four runs of their own in the top of the second.

Knight would continue his hot day at the plate and smack a double down the line and drive in Lewman to push the Lion lead to 6-4. Knight finished the day with two doubles and walks.

Penn St. Berks would collect a run in both the third and fourth to level the game at 6-6. Nicolas Natalie would come to the rescue in the third and work out of a bases loaded jam.

The score would stay locked until the bottom of the fifth. The same combination of Gorla, Hunter and Pecoraro along with Christian Eckstein would add four runs and put the Lions on top 10-6. Gorla would join Knight in having two doubles on the day for Albright.

Lead changes would continue as Penn St. Berks would snag a run in the top of the sixth followed by four in the top of the eighth to take an 11-10 lead.

The lead would not last long as Albright responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth. Eckstein would score on a wild pitch and Lewman would drive in a run on a ground out to allow the Lions to regain the lead at 12-11. Eckstein also had a great day on the base paths swiping three bags.

The Nittany Lions yet again would fight back and grab two runs in the top of the ninth and retake the lead at 13-12.

Albright was not finished. Hunter would hit a triple to right field and eventually come around to score on a wild pitch the following at bat. That would be the last run the game saw as it was called due to darkness leaving a rare baseball tie at 13-13.

CJ Easler would provide great work out of the Lions' bullpen pitching a strong four innings on the day. Easler only allowed two runs while striking out two batters in the process.
