READING, Pa. – Albright Baseball (6-2-1) opened their first conference series of the year against Alvernia (4-4). Throughout the entire game the Lions bats could do little to no wrong as 19 hits powered Albright to a 12-8 win.
After the Golden Wolves pushed one across in the opening frame,
Tommy Lewman singled to left field to score
Michael Avino to tie the game. The RBI single was the first of a team high four hits for Lewman as well as his 100
th career collegiate hit while Avino finished with three hits of his own.
The Lions would find themselves trailing in the fourth inning before
Tyler Boccelli crushed a three-run home run to center field to give Albright a 4-2 lead after four innings.
Also recording a home run was
Christian Eckstein who sent a ball deep into left center in the sixth on the first pitch of his at bat.
With the score tied once again in the bottom of the seventh (7-7), the Lions bats exploded once more to bring in four runs over the next two innings.
Chris Gorla,
John Pecoraro and
Plyler Hunter would all come through in big spots to set Albright up for a series opening victory.
The entirety of the Lions lineup would find success and record at least one hit.
Anthony Knight joined Avino with three hits along with an RBI and came around to score twice.
Landyn Shaw earned his first win of the season and struck out four batters in as many innings out of the bullpen.
