Baseball Opens Season with Doubleheader Sweep over Massachusetts Maritime

The Lions opened their 2026 season in Vero Beach, Florida on Sunday afternoon. Albright took both ends of the doubleheader.

VERO BEACH, Fl. – Baseball (2-0) began their 2026 season in Florida playing a pair of games against Massachusetts Maritime (1-2). The Lions began the day with a 5-2 victory and followed that with a 6-1 victory.

Manager Justin Perry enters his fourth season at the helm of the baseball program. Perry has led his team to a 2-0 in all of the past three seasons dating back to 2024.

Game 1:

Albright scored five runs on six hits led by Tyler Boccelli who ended the game with two hits.

The Lions struck in the first inning after putting runners on base. Nathan Golden came around to score on an error by the opposing pitcher.

Four runs would come across the board for Albright across the fourth through six innings.

Boccelli extended Albright's lead to 3-1 on a two RBI double scoring Anthony Knight and Chris Gorla.

Michael Avino plated the Lions fourth run of the game coming around to score on a wild pitch. Avino reached base via a single.

Albright loaded the bases in the sixth inning scoring their final run of the game on a balk. Keyir Burwell entered as a pinch runner to score on the balk.

Josh Tudor took the ball for the Lions in the season opener and proceeded to throw six innings of one run ball. Tudor notched fix strikeouts while only walking one batter. The six innings is tied for the longest outing of Tudors career.

Chris Valerio found himself in a jam in the seventh inning but worked out of it to close the door and secure the win for Albright.
 
Game 2:
The offense came to life for Albright in game two combining 11 hits to score six runs. Tommy Lewman, Plyler Hunter and Jake Andrews all collected two hits.

No runs were scored through the first two innings. The third inning featured five total runs with one coming from Massachusetts Maritime and four from Albright.

In the bottom of the third Albright started the inning with five hits across the first six batters of the inning. John Pecoraro knocked in the first run, scoring Lewman on a single. Hunter then doubled home Pecoraro and Tyler Boccelli to put Albright in front 3-1.

Andrews followed Hunter with an RBI single extending the lead to 4-1 heading into the fourth inning.

The 4-1 lead would hold until Albright separated themselves, scoring twice in the sixth inning. Anthony Knight singled to score Avino while Sameer German crossed the plate on a fielder's choice.

Colby Yaich threw a gem going six innings striking out six while only allowing four hits. The six innings ties Yaich's longest career outing while the six strikeouts set a new career high in a game for Yaich.

Landyn Shaw came on in the seventh inning facing the minimum three batters striking out one of them.

Up Next:

Albright will remain in Florida for the entirety of the upcoming week. The Lions will face Wilkes tomorrow March 2 at 10:00 a.m.
