Late Inning Heroics Lift Baseball Over Valley Forge

The Lions came from behind for their 10th win of the season.

READING, Pa. – Albright Baseball (10-5-1) played at home for the second time in as many days and hosted the Valley Forge (9-9) Patriots. With the Patriots leading after six, five runs from the Lions when it mattered most would result in a thrilling 9-5 win.

Quincy Bell opened the first inning for the Lions in what would become a bullpen game where eight of 10 Lions pitchers turned in scoreless outings.

After the Patriots scored a pair of runs in the third, Tyler Boccelli got the Lions on the board with the first of his two RBIs in the form of a sacrifice fly to score Michael Avino. Boccelli would double the following inning to score Avino again along with Tommy Lewman to give the Lions their first lead of the day (4-2).

Three runs from Valley Forge in the sixth inning would allow the Patriots to retake the lead by a score of 5-4.

The Lions responded in epic fashion beginning with an Anthony Knight single to tie the game (5-5) once again before Chris Gorla crushed a ball to left field for a go ahead two run homer to put the Lions out front by a score of 7-5.

John Pecorano would add a pair of insurance runs via a single to score Christian Eckstein and Plyler Hunter before Reyes Quinones and Wayne Hudson combined for the final six outs of the game.

Josh Tudor earned his fourth win of the season after pitching a scoreless seventh inning which included a pair of strikeouts.

The Lions have now won three of their last four and move to 3-1-1 at home this season.
