VIRIGINA BEACH, Va. – Women's Lacrosse (3-1) traveled down to Virginia Beach to take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) for their third early road game of the season. After trading blows in the first half, the Lions found their stride in the third quarter and never looked back in what ended up a 10-6 win.
After the Marlins struck first,
Riley Basht continued her breakout season with the first of her three goals to tie the game 1-1 before converting on a free position shot in the final minutes of the first period.
After six goals were scored in the first period, neither time found the back of the net for the remainder of the first half leaving the Lions and Marlins deadlocked at halftime 3-3.
Paige Lipp got things started for the Lions in what would be a 5-1 run in the third quarter with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Lipp also ended the day with an assist to finish with three points.
Zoe Dicks would also account for three points in the third quarter via a goal of her own and a pair of assists. Dicks was again a two-way machine for the Lions and led the team with five points in addition to causing two turnovers on defense.
Also contributing with multiple points was
Olivia Ball who scored twice in addition to recovering five ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers.
The Lions forced 12 total turnovers with
Madison Wood leading the way with three in addition to a first quarter goal that gave the Lions their first lead of the day.
Albright's last goal of the day came from
Michaela DeMeo who scored her first collegiate goal with just under five minutes to play to put the game comfortably out of reach in favor of the Lions.
Kylee McCauley-Kriegsman started in goal and made seven saves in what was another strong outing for the junior.
