Baseball Outlasted by Messiah

The Lions opened their series against the reigning national runner ups Messiah Falcons on the road. Messiah won game one of the series 7-6.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Baseball (11-16-1, 3-10 MAC Commonwealth) opened their three-game set against Messiah (19-9, 12-1 MAC Commonwealth) on the Falcons home field. 13 total runs were scored in today's game with Messiah having seven to Albright's six.

The first five batters of the game for Albright reached base safely. A Tommy Lewman walk, Michael Avino double and a Tyler Bocelli walk loaded the bases for Anthony Knight. Knight singled home Lewman and was followed by a Chris Gorla single who scored Avino and Bocelli.

Knight came around to score on the Lions next batter giving the road team a 4-0 lead.

Avino doubled for the second time in as many innings to score Nathan Golden who got into scoring position after singling and later stealing third. Golden leads the team in steals this season with 11.

Messiah battled back to tie the game in the home half of the second at five. The Falcons scored one run in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Golden hit his first career home run to right field to bring Albright within one in the seventh inning.

The Falcons pitching staff was able to keep Albright from tying the game to take game one of the series 7-6.

Lewman reached base twice on two walks and scoring a run. Colby Yaich tossed two shutout innings while Wayne Hudson did the same in 1.2 innings.
