Softball Drops Road Doubleheader to Messiah

The Lions went on the road to face the Commonwealth leading Messiah Falcons on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won both ends of today’s doubleheader.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Softball (10-18, 4-6 MAC Commonwealth) went on the road for their fifth Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth series of the season squaring off against the Messiah Falcons (20-10, 10-0 MAC Commonwealth). Messiah won both ends of the doubleheader to remain perfect in conference play.

Despite the losses today the Lions are still in the mix in the MAC Commonwealth softball playoff race. As it stands, Albright sits just one game behind Alvernia for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Lions finish their conference schedule with a road series against Stevenson and a home series against Hood.

Game 1: L, 11-6

Albright looked to hand Messiah their first conference loss in the first game of the doubleheader.

With Messiah in front 1-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, Albright scored twice to take the lead.

Both Lion runs in the inning came with two outs. Madison Lasko singled home Katie Behler to tie the game at 1-1. An error by Messiah off the bat of Adriana Buonacore forced in another Lions run to go in front 2-1.

Trailing 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Lions once again battled back to take the lead. Grace Landante, Emilie Smith, Lasko and Winchell all were involved in giving a 6-5 lead to Albright.

The Falcons bats would come alive in the sixth inning plating four runs which proved to be the difference in game one.

Behler finished with two hits and two runs scored. Slaydon Fisher collected a hit while also scoring a run. Eight different Lions ended game one with at least one hit.

Game 2: L, 8-0

Messiah's Kelli Durbin held the Lions bats in check throwing five shutout innings.

The Falcons scored four in the first inning and never looked back to take both ends of the doubleheader.

Buonacore and Sadie Gonzalez were each credited with one hit each in game two. Emma Massie reached base via a walk.
