Softball Pitchers Star in Sweep over Penn State Berks

The Lions played the first of two straight home series.

READING, Pa. – Softball (12-18) hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks (6-16) on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions played both games at their pace and were able to sweep Berks at home in a pair of comfortable victories by scores of 5-3 and 4-1.

Game 1: W, 5-3

After Berks scored the day's first run, Mya Frana reached on a bunt single to score Riley Winchell and tie the game.

With the Nittany Lions retaking the lead, Albright would once again waste no time with a run of their own as Frana would walk with the bases loaded to force in Faith Sanchez-Schroeder.

After Madison Lasko drove in Juliette Licata with an RBI single, Winchell drove in two more to give the Lions a 5-2 lead after four innings. Winchell finished game one with three hits and a walk.

Alexis Laboy earned her fourth win and allowed only one earned run in four innings before Gabriella Weiss took over and closed things out.

Game 2: W, 4-1

The Lions struck first in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single from Grace Landante to score Slaydon Fisher.

After Berks tied things up in the third the Lions would strike back with three in the following inning. Riley Winchell took advantage of a throwing error before Katie Behler smashed a double to center field to score Adriana Buonacore and Licatta.

Kaitlyn Aasheim started and picked up her first win of the season with five innings allowing only one earned run while surrendering just four total base runners. Weiss would once again wind up finishing the game to complete the sweep for the Lions.
