READING, Pa. – Albright Softball (13-19) hosted Penn State Schuylkill (16-12) to close out a pair of series on their home turf. After the Lions fell just short of a comeback in game one, a shutout victory in game two allowed them to salvage the day.
Game 1:
Schuylkill jumped out to a 10-0 lead and things seemed bleak for the Lions early before step by step and run by run they clawed their way back in exciting fashion.
The Lions broke through in the third inning with
Adriana Buonacore stealing home as part of a double steal.
With Schuylkill being shut down the rest of the day, Albright would put up a pair of four spots in both the fourth and fifth inning to bring them within one.
Juliette Licata drove in runs in both the fourth and fifth inning as part of the comeback effort and finished with a team best three RBIs.
Joining Licata with multiple RBIs was
Katie Behler who drove in a pair and finished game one with as many hits.
Ultimately, the Lions would fall one run short by a score of 10-9 after threatening in the seventh inning.
Game 2:
The Lions jumped out in front early with three runs in the first inning beginning with Licata scoring off an RBI from
Slaydon Fisher before
Madison Lasko and
Riley Winchell drove in two more launching Albright to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Winchell would plate two more runs with her second knock of the game to bring home Lasko and
Faith Sanchez-Schroeder.
Fisher would also account for the second of a pair of runs in the sixth with an RBI knock to left center to score Behler.
Gabriella Weiss earned her seventh win of the season with a career performance. The sophomore pitched a full seven innings and struck out four batters while only allowing two hits and one walk.
