NEWTOWN, Pa. – Albright tennis has swept the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Player of the Weeks for the fifth time this season seeing
Elicia Aponte (women's tennis) and
Karim Fattal (men's tennis) take home the honor for this week.
Both men's and women's tennis programs have enjoyed fantastic seasons under the guidance of head coach Mirinda Brown who recently notched her 100
th career win. Both teams have yet to drop a single point in conference play this season with both clinching a spot for the upcoming MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
Albright will be either the one or two seed in the playoffs. The men's tennis team will host the semifinal match on Tuesday, April 29 and the women will host on Wednesday, April 30. An opponent and start time of the match is yet to be determined.
Aponte wrapped up another 4-0 week across singles and doubles play. The junior dropped only one game in singles winning the first week of the match 6-0, 6-1 and the second 6-0, 6-0. In doubles play Aponte teamed with
Michelle Timothy and proceeded to win 6-1 and 6-3 in their respective doubles matches.
Fattal has been on a roll as of late. This past week Fattal won 6-2, 6-1 against Immaculata and 6-1, 6-1 against Eastern. The first-year Lion has won his last five matches overall playing some of his best tennis of the year when it matters most.
Men's tennis will travel to Messiah today (April 21) to face the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. and the women will play Messiah tomorrow (April 22) at the same time. Both matches are for the right to have home court advantage throughout the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
