Women’s Tennis Sweeps Alvernia 7-0

Albright women’s tennis won 7-0 over Alvernia on Wednesday afternoon winning their second straight conference match to start the season.

READING, Pa. – Women's tennis (9-3, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) swept Alvernia (2-5, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon earning their fourth straight victory overall. The victory is the third straight for the Lions over the Golden Wolves.

Albright has won their last five matches overall while winning the last four without dropping a single team point. In the past five matches Albright is outscoring their opponent 33-2.

In conference play the Lions have been dominant for multiple seasons now. The Lions are currently riding a 15-match winning streak in conference play with their last defeat coming in the spring of 2023.

Albright is the two-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth champions and are well on their way to defending their title. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the 2026 MAC Commonwealth women's tennis championships.

All six singles matches were won by the Lions in straight sets. Across the six singles matches the Lions only dropped four total games.

Nadia Margaritov won the first set 6-2 in #1 singles and cruised from there winning the second set 6-0. As the #1 singles player this season Margaritov is 6-2.

Michelle Timothy made quick work of her opponent winning 6-0, 6-0. Through two conference matches this season Timothy has yet to drop a single game.

Elicia Aponte dominated in #3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Aponte has won her last five matches in a row all coming in straight sets.

Alaina Smith played the #4 singles match for the third time this season for Albright. Today Smith won 6-0, 6-1 to remain undefeated at #4 singles this year moving to 3-0.

Daniela Diez has yet to lose in a Lion uniform since joining the team winning today in #5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Diez is a perfect 7-0 this season.

Allison Horick was set to play in the #6 singles match before her opponent was forced to withdraw.

It was more of the same for the Lions in doubles play. Aponte and Timothy handled business in #1 doubles, winning 6-3. Margaritov and Smith earned the team doubles point winning the #2 doubles match 6-0.
