DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Football (2-1, 0-1 MAC) played the latter of back-to-back road games against the Delaware Valley Aggies (2-1, 2-0 MAC). Following four quarters of play, the Aggies would survive in their home opener by a score of 24-21.
After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter,
Kadan Smith broke the seal for the Lions with a 16-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to cap off an eight-play drive and cut into the Aggies' lead. Smith finished with 133 total yards on just 14 touches.
The Lions found themselves in a hole yet again following a kickoff return by the Aggies to start the second half. A 12-play drive later that quarter would result in a gutsy throw from
Chase Roberts on fourth and goal from the three to
DeAndre Clemons for a touchdown to bring themselves back within one possession (21-14).
Defensively, the Lions kept a high-powered Aggie offense in check with a pair of interceptions coming from
Khaleeb Foster and
James Evans.
Daunte Morrison was all of the field registering a game high 11 tackles including a pair for a loss and combining with
Darien Osmun for a sack.
Needing a score Late,
Chase Roberts would call his own number from a yard out to bring the Lions within three (24-21) with just over five minutes remaining. Roberts finished the day with 250 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Logan Rothberg turned in another great performance making five catches for 103 yards. Rothberg now has two 100-yard games and three touchdowns on the young season.
The game's final drive would lead to the Lions marching into field goal range, but a penalty as time expired would leave them just short of forcing overtime.
