READING, Pa. – Football (2-2, 0-2 MAC) played at Shirk Stadium for the second time this season and kicked off homecoming Saturday against Misericordia (3-1, 2-1 MAC). Both defenses turned in strong performances as the Cougars would go on to prevail by a score of 15-14.
Following a scoreless first quarter, The Lions struck fist courtesy of
DeAndre Clemons blocking a punt leading to a scoop and score from
Derae Edwards to take a 7-0 lead with just under seven minutes to go in the first half.
The Cougars would eventually answer with a field goal and the two sides would enter halftime under a 7-3 Lions lead. A heavy downpour in the first half limited both offenses and created difficult field conditions for the two squads.
Halftime featured the recognition of Albright Athletics' 2026 Hall of Fame class following their official induction ceremony the night before.
With neither team managing to put up points in the third quarter,
Chase Roberts would account for the next touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter with a one-yard push over the goal line. Roberts' touchdown capped off a 12-play drive that went 95 yards after the Lions' defense turned away the Cougars on downs in a goal to go situation.
Isaiah Megginson stepped up with a team best 74 rushing yards and averaged 6.2 yards per carry including a number of physical runs to move the chains.
Daunte Morrison and
Jaylan Atkinson were seemingly everywhere in today's contest and combined for 24 tackles including a game and career best 14 tackles from Morrison.
Unfortunately for the Lions, the Cougars' offense would break through in the fourth quarter which included the game's lone touchdown pass coming in the final 30 seconds of play.
