READING, Pa. – Football (1-0) opened their season in front of a packed crowd at Shirk Stadium against Gallaudet (0-1). Through four quarters of play the Lions took care of business and then some in what resulted in a 44-7 victory. At halftime of today's game the Albright football program honored the "Legends of the 70's" which includes the '75, '76 and '77 teams. A contigent of roughly 25 for Albright standouts were in attendance to cheer on the 2026 version of the Lions.
The 37-point margin of victory is the largest for the Lions since the 2016 season and the most points scored in the
Shaun Weaver era.
Albright wasted no time and started their scoring early with a two-yard run by
Isaiah Megginson after a blocked punt by
James Pemberton.
10 more points would be added in the second quarter courtesy of an eight-yard
Kadan Smith run for his first Lion touchdown and a 42-yard field goal from
Darius Geaman in the final seconds of the first half.
The Lions would then embark on a 21-point third quarter beginning with a 23-yard touchdown reception by
Logan Rothberg for the first of two passing touchdowns from
Chase Roberts. Roberts was his usual self and completed 18 of 25 passes for 276 yards and a pair of scores.
A 17-yard run from
DeAndre Clemons on the ensuing drive put the Lions up 31-0 over the Bison with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Bison's lone score would come off a deep pass a little over a minute later.
Shayde Shultz capped off the team's electric third quarter with a 67-yard reception for his first collegiate receiving touchdown as part of a career day across the board registering game highs in receptions (7) and receiving yards (118).
As a team the Lions' defense held the Bison to 217 total yards of offense compared to Albright's 501. Six Lions combined for five sacks including
Harris Adam who forced a fumble in the third quarter to setup Clemons' touchdown.
Jaylan Atkinson found himself involved in play after play and registered a team high eight tackles including 2.5 for a loss and an eight-yard sack in the first quarter.
Also frequently operating in the backfield were
Darien Osmun and
Nasir Ward who combined for a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss.
By the fourth quarter the Lions had the game well in hand and were able to run out the clock for the win marking the third straight season to open with a victory.
