Football's Hot Streak Continues, Defeats Lycoming 26-7

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The last time Albright started its season off with a perfect 5-0 record was more than decade ago. However all that changed Saturday afternoon as the scorching hot Lions (5-0/2-0 MAC) picked up their fifth straight win of the season and their second straight Middle Atlantic Conference victory at Lycoming College's (2-3/1-1 MAC) David Person Field.

For the second consecutive week, senior quarterback #Tanner Kelly# proved to be the driving force behind another sensational Albright victory. However the game plan changed a little bit this week as Kelly found a new receiver to play catch with.

Last week it was the Kelly to #Nate Romig# connection, this week in Williamsport it was Kelly to sophomore wideout #Scott Pillar# all afternoon. The Keansburg, NJ native had a career best day totaling 170 receiving yards on seven catches and had two touchdown receptions. His longest catch of the day was in the first quarter when Kelly connected with Pillar for a 64 yard touchdown reception to make it 6-0 at the time.

For Kelly, he ended the afternoon with a total three TD passes, and totaled 393 yards in the air. He was 22-for-34 and for the fifth straight game did not throw a single interception. On the ground Kelly led the team with 87 total yards, and as a punter tallied an additional 118 yards on three punts.

Combined the Lions offense totaled 506 yards on 72 plays, and possessed the ball for an amazing 37 minutes of Saturday's game. They were also 10 of 17 on third down conversions and recorded 22 first downs.

Speaking of Romig, he did not leave Williamsport without a score of his own. The all-time points leader at Albright recorded the Lions final score of the day in the fourth quarter on a 29 yard pass from Kelly. Romig continues to climb the all-time ladder in multiple categories including TD receptions and career receptions.

Junior kicker #John Whelan# had a solid afternoon connecting on two of his three field goal attempts. He managed a career best 45 yarder in the second quarter, which was just short yards away from tying the longest field goal made in program history.

Switching over to the defensive side of Albright's game plan, it was pretty much the same as it has been every single Saturday this season, the red and white left no doubt.

On the day Albright's powerhouse defense allowed just one touchdown, eight Lycoming first downs, and 183 yards of Lycoming total offense. They also limited the Warriors offense to just 23 minutes of total possession time and recorded 39 stops.

Leading the Lion's in tackles was #Mark Bergery# with a career best 11.5. The lone interception went to big man #Jon Linn# who finished second on the day with four stops. Albright's only sack against Lycoming quarterback Colin Dwyer went to #Chris Meccariello#.

With Saturday's win, the Lions remain as the only defeated team in the Middle Atlantic Conference. To date, the red and white have compiled 2,339 yards of total offense, 107 first downs, and have outscored their opponents 171-58.

Football will look to continue this hot streak next Saturday when they travel to King's College for another MAC showdown. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
