ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - In their final Commonwealth Conference match on the road, the Lions traveled to Elizabethtown College to face the Blue Jays Tuesday evening in Thompson Gymnasium. Elizabethtown who is currently sitting first in the conference standings defeated the red and white by the final score of 3-0.
Even though the red and white were down three key members, they still managed to give the Blue Jays a tough match. Albright nearly walked away with the first game, up 24-22. However, the Blue Jays managed to score four unanswered points to take the 26-24 decision. From there Etown defeated the Lions 25-15 in game two and 25-20 in game three.
Offensively, freshman
Alyssa Hoogendoorn scored a team high six kills on 17 attempts. She was joined by
Alexa Jones, who put together a five kill performance. Jones was also solid defensively recording a match high 17 digs.
Also producing defensively for the Lions were
Kelly Nicodemus with 15 digs and
Erin Wentzel with 10 digs. Setter
Lauren Higgins put up 18 assists, while also tallying seven digs and two kills.
Volleyball returns to action this Saturday when they host DeSales University at 7 p.m. in the Bollman Center. Prior to the start of this Thursday's match, the Lions will recognize their two senior members
Christina Yatron and
Cassie Campbell.
