READING, Pa. - As the old saying goes you may have won the battle, but the war is far from over, and that definitely proved to be the case Wednesday evening in the Bollman Center. In their first conference match of the season, the Volleyball team (2-6) faced off against Messiah College (4-6) in a heated back and forth contest.

Despite dropping the contest by the score of 3-1, Albright showed just how tough they are as they went toe-to-toe with a very strong Falcons squad. The team that arrived in the Bollman Center Wednesday evening showed that they have all the ability to turn some heads in the Commonwealth Conference this season.

After a dominant 25-16 victory in the first game, Messiah would comeback to take the final three games from the red and white. However each Falcon victory was decided by five points or less. Game two and three ended with the scoreboard reading 25-20 in both games. Game four proved to be even closer than the previous two, as Messiah pulled out a close 25-23 win.

Having herself another tremendous match was junior #Danielle Ozment# who threw down a team high 13 kills. Ozment also scored two service aces and managed eight digs. #Meg Wheeler# also stood out offensively scoring six kills in Wednesday's match.

Junior #Lauren Higgins# tallied 21 set assists, and freshman #Alexa Jones# recorded a career best 10 digs. #Kelly Nicodemus# was next in line in the digs column totaling nine.

For Messiah, at 15 kill performance from Lauren Reese proved to be the deciding factor. Combined with four service aces, Rees paced the Falcons throughout the final game. Setter Lauren Bourdon put up 28 assists, and Lauren Lathrop tallied a team high 10 digs. Brynn Lettieri was the matches' most dangerous server scoring five service aces.

Volleyball returns to action this Friday when they host King's College (PA) at 7 p.m. in the Bollman Center in day one of the 2009 Albright Invitational
