READING, Pa. - After a scoreless first half of play between the Lady Lions soccer (2-4-1) team and the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions (3-2), freshman #Jordan Cassidy# and sophomore #Katie Cooper# netted back-to-back goals to give the red and white a 2-0 victory Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.
Cassidy was the one who broke the scoreless draw in the 54th minute of the match. After receiving a great pass from senior #Amy Hoelscher#, Cassidy split the defense on a great turn and hammered the ball past Penn State Berks goalkeeper Cassidy Dawson.
Dawson who has played every single minute this season for the Nittany Lions totaled six saves on the day, and faced 13 shots from the Lions offense.
Sealing the victory in the 76th minute was Cooper on a one-timer after #Meg Albright# played a perfect ball into the goal box. Prior to Wednesday's scores, each player had one assist to their names as well.
The Albright defense was spectacular throughout the game, holding Penn State Berks to zero shots for all 90 minutes. They also dominated in the corner kick category, posting six to Berks' zero.
#Keeley Peltz# garnered her second win and shutout of the year with the 2-0 decision over the Nittany Lions.
