READING, Pa. - With less than two minutes to play in regulation, and the score tied a t3-3, Widener forward Kate Fay punched in the deciding goal to give the Pride (7-2/1-1 Commonwealth) a 4-3 conference win over Albright field hockey (6-5/1-2 CC) Friday afternoon in Shirk Stadium.
The goal which was recorded at 68:23 of the second half was assisted by Megan Scarpinato on a penalty corner opportunity. Prior to the decisive mark, Albright battled back to even the score at 3-3 with about five minutes to play. #Gia Boscola# netted her 10th score of the season after redirecting a #Caitlin Feldman# pass to the far post.
Feldman on the day had one goal and two assists. Her first assist came on Albright's second goal of the afternoon, which was scored by Boscola in the 26th minute. Feldman's lone goal came in the first 12 minutes, when she dribbled through the entire Widener team and drove home the unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1.
Samantha Balonis gave Widener the early lead after driving home a loose ball at 10:55 of the first half. After Feldman tied the game at 1-1, Widener responded in the form of a Colleen Cormier goal in the 22nd minute.
Battling right back was the red and white as Boscola's first goal evened the score at 2-2 less than five minutes after Widener's. Cormier would give her team a one goal lead before the end of the first half.
As a team, the Lions totaled 10 shots in the match with eight going on goal. For Widener their offense produced 16 shots, 13 of which were on target. Netminder #Marguerite DeLucas# tallied eight saves in the match, while her Widener counterpart Megan Purcell recorded five.
Field Hockey returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to DeSales University for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
