Susquehanna Downs Men's Tennis in Fall Opener

Box Score

READING, Pa. - For the first time in recent memory the Albright men's tennis team (0-1) opened up their season in the fall. Now under the guidance of head coach Dr. Keith Rodgers the red and white hosted Susquehanna University (1-0) in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Courts.

The visiting Crusaders left Reading with their first 9-0 victory of the season. Coming off a very strong campaign from a year ago, Susquehanna returned a large group of talented veterans this season.

For the Lions, sophomore all-conference honoree, #Kenneth Ip# played an extremely tough match at first singles. The native of Hong Kong battled Susquehanna's Michael Hickey to a tie-break set. After dropping a 6-1 decision, Ip battled back in the second to win 7-5. Unfortunately, he was unable to hang on was Hickey took the tie-breaker 10-8.

From there, Susquehanna went on to hand the Lions five more losses in singles play. To start off the afternoon, the Crusaders swept doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead.

Men's Tennis will host one more match this fall on October 2 when they take on Penn State Harrisburg at noon.
