Swimming Falls to Susquehanna in Regular Season Finale

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In their final regular season meet, both Albright swim teams were defeated by Susquehanna University by the final scores of 123-82 on the men's side and 106-99 on the women's side. The losses, give the men's team a final regular season record of 8-3-1, while the women end the 2010-11 season with a record of 8-4.

On the day, both teams combined for six individual first place finishes respectively. The red and white swept all four relay events in Saturday's non-conference meet.

To start off Saturday's both 200 medley relay teams swam away with first place times. For the women their time of 1:56.72 was over a second faster than their Susquehanna competitors. The men's team also finished a second ahead of their opponents as they recorded a time of 1:43.90.

From there Allie Fies added another nine points to the Lady Lions score as she cut off nearly six seconds off her personal best time in the 1,000 free. The senior finished the event with a new personal best of 11:15.25. After that Katy Oeste placed second in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.75.

Tricia Janowiak earned her team nine more points after placing first in the 50 free with a time of 26.06 seconds. The wins continued to roll in after that as Aimee Snyder took first in the 200 IM with her time of 2:16.58. Fies followed up that performance with another first place finish, this time in the 100 free (55.48).

Kari Keller would earn the final individual top time in the 100 breast (1:13.20). The 400 free relay team dominated the water to close out Saturday's meet. The team of Snyder, Madi Hauk, Lauren Onusko, and Fies swam combined for a time of 3:48.40, which was six seconds ahead of Susquehanna.

For the men's team Eric Kramer earned the only individual first place finish for the Lions. The senior recorded a time of 1:48.28 to take the 200 free. The only other first place time for the men's team came in the 400 free relay. The team of Adam Kurtz, Chris Sheerer, Mike McBride, and Kramer earned a combined time of 3:20.93.

Kramer would also place second in the 100 free with his time of 48.70 seconds. Sheerer and Tim Pierce were also second place finishers in the 100 back (55.83) and the 50 free (22.86) respectively.

Swimming will now prepare for the biggest three days of the season the Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet. This year's championship meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 11 and end on the 13. The meet will be held at the Christian Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre.
