Box Score
The Albright College men's soccer team fell to visiting Gettysburg, ranked 8th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, falling 6-1 on Wednesday night at Shirk Stadium.
Sophomore
Lamar Stewart scored the Lions' only goal, winning the ball back from a Gettysburg defender and ripping a low shot that left the goalkeeper frozen.
Albright goalie
Ryan Barr started out well, tipping away
Andrew McLane's outside shot and then charging out to get a fist on the ensuing corner. Thirteen minutes in,
Tyler Shaffer got around the left end but Barr kicked his shot away.
Gettysburg broke through on another corner, with McLane heading in
Andrew LaFontaine's cross in the 17th minute. Seven and a half minutes later, the Bullets doubled their lead as Shaffer slipped behind the defense and slid a shot under Barr.
The Lions were unlucky in the 28th minute, as
Kyle DeBlois layed the ball back to McLane, whos shot deflected off a defender and in.
Calum Benjamin had a pair of breakways late in the first half. Barr did well to save the first one, but Benjamin slipped the second past him for a 4-0 Gettysburg halftime lead.
The Bullets added two more right after the break, on solid combination plays. First
Teddy McCarthy played out wide to
Dan McNamara on the right who fed
Devin Geiman for the goal, and then he was involved in a similar play on the left side that led to a Shaffer tally.
Albright threatened in the second half through
Tyler Waters' long throw-ins, but couldn't find the target on their chances.
Senior
David Folino got a foot on a corner kick but put the shot just high.
The Lions fall to 5-5 and will travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday for a crucial Commonwealth Conference matchup.
